University Interscholastic League Executive Director Bill Farney is retiring at the end of the month.
The UIL, which is the governing body for Texas public high school sports, announced the move Wednesday. Farney has held the UIL's top spot since 1995.
During Farney's tenure, the league has implemented team tennis, boy's and girl's soccer, girl's softball and girl's wrestling.
In 2008, the league also implemented the nation's largest high school steroids testing program. Ordered by the Texas Legislature, the program will test up to 50,000 students by the end of the current school year.
