Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith, who was on hand at AT&T Stadium for the team’s draft party on Thursday night, expressed some excitement after the team’s selection of Notre Dame offensive tackle Zack Martin at 16th overall.
“[The offensive line] grew as a unit last year, and anything that can help our team out is great,” Smith said, per the Dallas Morning News. “He’ll be a great addition for our team.”
In 2013, the Cowboys had their best offensive line group in a half decade. It started with the selection of Travis Frederick with the 31st overall pick last year, and he made an immediate impact and earned All-Rookie honors. In all likelihood, Martin will be plugged in alongside Frederick at right guard.
The best of that group hands down, though, was Smith. He earned his first Pro Bowl nod and, after Dallas exercised the fifth-year option on Smith’s rookie contract last week, he is in line for a sizable long-term deal sooner than later.
“I’m really excited they picked up my fifth year,” Smith said. “I’m really excited to be here in Dallas.”
