Signed by the Dallas Cowboys last week, defensive tackle Terrell McClain is coming into his first offseason with the team looking for a starting job.
McClain hasn’t had a steady starting gig since his rookie season of 2011, as a member of the Carolina Panthers, when he started 12 games and finished with 19 tackles and a sack--both career-highs. He appeared in a total of four games in 2012, with the Patriots and Texans, but never got a start and didn’t record a tackle.
Last year with the Texans, he appeared in 16 games, started none and posted 10 tackles.
"Just trying to find a place to fit in [after] I got released," McClain said, per ESPN Dallas. "But now that I'm going into my fourth year, it's time for me to get back on that horse and become another starter. Just try to see if I can fit in the NFL like I did my rookie year.”
McClain believes he’ll be helped by defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli’s scheme.
"Just the fast-paced, get off the ball, get after the quarterback every play," McClain said. "If you have good quickness off the ball and good footwork you can really make a difference in the system."
