Stephen Jones: I Don't See Us Trading Picks For Any Veteran

The statement casts some doubt on the rumors that Dallas is interested in trading for Adrian Peterson

The man who, according to popular lore, kept the Dallas Cowboys from drafting Johnny Manziel a year ago is casting some doubt on the idea that they could make a big splash this draft season by trading for one Adrian Peterson.

Cowboys COO and executive vice president Stephen Jones was on 105.3-FM The Fan and, via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News, he suggested that the team has no plans to trade away any picks to get a veteran--even, we’re left to assume, if he’s a highly-decorated veteran like Peterson.

"I don't see us using any picks to trade for veteran players,” Jones said.

We sincerely doubt this will slow the Peterson-to-Dallas talk at all. After all, this could be read as public posturing on the part of a team that is still very much interested in the 30-year-old.

But it also seems very likely that the Cowboys are content to take their running back need to the draft next week, which features one of the best crop of running backs in recent memory.
