So, Seriously, the Mavs are Rooting for the Spurs?

Ah, playoff basketball.  The drama. The competition. The flat-out absurdity.

Lance Stephenson blowing in the ear of LeBron James and – even more shocking – the Mavericks rooting for the rival Spurs? Sure enough, Mavs owner Mark Cuban says he wants San Antonio to eliminate the Thunder in the Western Conference Finals.

It’s not because they pushed San Antonio to the brink in Game 7 back in the first round. But more so, because they’re sick and tired of watching the Parker-Ginobli-Duncan trio over the past decade-plus.

“I want San Antonio to win,” Cuban said on 105.3 FM earlier this week. “I want Tim Duncan to hit a game-winning shot to win Game 7, then go to The Finals, do the exact same thing, hit a game-winning shot in Game 7, run the tunnel, and never be seen from again. I want him to retire on the spot.”

Painful as that may be for Mavs’ fans, it might be worth it. Do we dare root for the Spurs to win this season’s title, in hopes that it becomes the driving force to assure it’s their last title?
