RoughRiders, Rangers Extend Relationship Into 2020 Season

Contract extention announced on RoughRiders' Opening Day

The Frisco RoughRiders have some good news on their opening day -- they've extended their development contract with the Texas Rangers by two years.

The Rangers announced Thursday they were extending their longtime affiliation with their Double-A team through the 2020 season. The extension is the longest allowed by the agreement between the major and minor league baseball.

"The partnership began with the Riders’ inaugural season in Frisco in 2003 and matches the Northwest League Spokane Indians for the Rangers’ longest current minor league affiliation," the team said.

“The Rangers are pleased to extend our affiliation with the Frisco RoughRiders and continue a partnership that we believe is as strong as any that exists between a major league parent club and a minor league affiliate,” Rangers Assistant General Manager Jayce Tingler said. “The entire RoughRiders’ ownership and front office staff go out of their way to provide our players with a big league environment at the Double-A level.”

Frisco opens their season Thursday nigth at the Dr Pepper Ballpark against Tulsa.
