Perez Turns in Most Efficient Outing Yet

Martin Perez's game log reads like a broken record.

Don't believe? Take a look for yourself.

Every start but one has gone at least six innings. None have gone past the seventh and that one that wasn't at least six innings was one out shy of it. That's pretty consistent.

Granted, consistent hasn't necessarily meant good for Perez, who has had a tremendous problem this year with walking batters — to the tune of 15 walks and 14 strikeouts in his five starts.

On Wednesday night, Perez scored his first win of the season against the Yankees with another six-inning outing in which he allowed two runs on six hits. Was he great with his control? Not so much. He walked two and struck out three, but he was efficient.

In those six innings, he threw just 86 pitches — a season-low for the 25-year-old lefty. Could it be turning a corner? Maybe so, but he still needs to get over this walk issue that has come up this year and not rely so much on his league-leading 11 groundball double plays, because those won't always be there.
