Before Scott Linehan was the offensive playcaller for the Dallas Cowboys and the architect of the team's passing attack, he was doing the same thing with the potent offense of the Detroit Lions, featuring Matthew Stafford under center and arguably the best wide receiver in football in Calvin Johnson.
In his first year with Dallas, Linehan has gotten a bunch of well deserved credit for helping make the Cowboys' offense one of the best, most efficient offenses in football, and his old players in Detroit are not at all surprised.
"Why should it (surprise me)?" guard Rob Sims told the Detroit Free Press. "I think he just always has a good plan and he's really good with his players, and he did it for the Rams, Minnesota when they had Randy (Moss). I mean, his track record speaks for itself."
The Lions finished in the top 6 in the NFL in total offense three times in Linehan's tenure as offensive coordinator, which ended last season with his firing. The Cowboys are now ranked seventh in total offense after finishing No. 16 last season. They're ranked fifth in scoring offense at just shy of 30 points per game.
"[He has] done great," Sims said. "Their offense is doing their thing for sure. Doing a great job. That's about it. I love Scott."
Cowboys fans are starting to feel the same way, Rob.
