Lewis One-Year Deal Still Not Finalized

Colby Lewis, by all accounts, agreed to his fourth straight one-year deal with the Texas Rangers back on Dec. 18, as I was sitting in the press box at Houston's NRG Stadium getting ready to watch some Texas high school football state championship action.

I passed along the word to some of my buddies, and there were a bunch of high-fives and celebration.

That tells you what you need to know about Lewis, who has pledged his allegiance to the Rangers organization just as much as any other Ranger in recent memory. He is still the greatest postseason pitcher in club history and has overcome so much to get back out on the field not once, not twice, but about three times in recent years. He even had another knee surgery this winter.

The deal, then, was said to be pending a physical. Now, here we sit nearly two weeks later, and there has still been no formal announcement of the two sides reaching the agreement.

Did Lewis have a problem with his physical? Has he even had the physical yet given the deal was reached just before the Christmas holiday? Has he had second thoughts on the deal? The last is probably the least likely, given his and the team's desire to be together for another season.

Hopefully we'll get the final word on this soon and all of those faithful Cobra fans can rest easy.
