Sean Lee is that guy that you just love. He's the Cowboys' version of Adrian Beltre for the Rangers, minus the fact that he plays through all kinds of injuries.
It's not a knock on Lee. He's tough. He just isn't terribly durable. When you're a player like that in the NFL, you tend to have bonuses built into your contract for playing games and being durable.
If Lee had played on Sunday in the Cowboys' season finale, he'd have triggered a $2 million bonus for playing in 80 percent of the Cowboys' defensive snaps on the season. He warmed up before the game, according to the Dallas Morning News, then told coaches he couldn't go with the feeling he'd be able to help his team.
"I didn't feel like I was going to be effective enough to help the football team," Lee told reporters after he'd suffered a hamstring injury in Thursday's practice. "I'm not going to disrespect my teammates and my coaches and be out there not playing the right way."
It was an admirable call on Lee's part, but also a costly one.
