The Minnesota Vikings’ Jared Allen recently admitted that he was was somewhat disappointed that he had fallen just a half of a sack short of equaling Michael Strahan’s single season record last year, with 22. But having been so close to the mark makes Allen think that Strahan’s mark of 22.5 is beatable--and he’s not just speaking for himself.

In discussing the record--and his belief that a 25-sack season is possible--Allen mentioned the Cowboys’ DeMarcus Ware by name.

I think 25 is possible,” Allen said, per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. “I thinks someone will eventually get it. Look at some of the athletes, the DeMarcus Ware’s of the league and the matchups he creates as a 3-4 guy on a running back or something. I think it’s possible. Then again, no one’s ever had two 20-sack seasons in their career in the history of the NFL. So, someone’s gotta do that first. Like I said, I believe 25 is a number that will get hit one year. But when, I don’t know?”

Ware already has one 20-sack season under his belt, and he came just a half a sack away from another last year, with 19.5. With such consistently lofty sack totals, it’s no surprise that Ware is held in high regard among his fellow players, a respect that was reflected in a recent poll voted upon by said players. In that poll, Ware was voted the sixth best player in football, and the second best defender behind Jets’ cornerback Darrelle Revis.
