Greg Hardy Reportedly Upset Aldon Smith Got a Deal

Hardy played with the Cowboys last season but is now the freest of agents

Former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy is having a hard time finding a new team for a few fairly obvious reasons, and it’s reportedly left the former Pro Bowler frustrated.

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report reported over the weekend that Hardy was upset by the fact that Aldon Smith—the former San Francisco 49er who has had similar off-field issues to Hardy, and is still suspended—signed a new deal with the Oakland Raiders last week.

Granted, Hardy has done himself no favors in the perception department. He sat down for an altogether bizarre interview with ESPN’s Adam Schefter last week in which he thoroughly convinced most of the viewing public that he was decidedly not a changed man, and that’s to say nothing of the football side of things—we’d imagine, for instance, that the rest of the league has heard about how he wore his welcome out in Dallas as the season progressed.

Hardy had six sacks for the Cowboys in 2015 after being suspended for the first four games, but just two over the final eight weeks of the season—not horrible, sure, but not enough that you’re willing to overlook a player’s penchant for doing stuff like slapping clipboards out of assistant coaches’ hands.

So we won’t venture any guess as to why the Raiders felt it a good idea to sign Smith, but as for why Hardy is still a free agent? Well, there are bigger mysteries.
