George Selvie Looks to Build on Improbable 2013

Signed off the street in July, Selvie went on to record seven sacks for Dallas in 2013

When George Selvie was signed (off the street, as they say) by the Dallas Cowboys back on July 24, we doubt if anyone would’ve predicted that the journeyman would finish with more sacks than DeMarcus Ware. But that’s just what happened.

Selvie finished with seven sacks and Ware finished with six, a new career-low for the seven-time Pro Bowler.

Selvie also had 45 tackles, a pass defensed and a forced fumble while playing in all 16 games, a season on which the veteran now hopes to build.

It was a good ride,” Selvie said, per ESPN Dallas. “I was at home and I wasn't in nobody's training camp, nobody's [organized team activities], but they gave me an opportunity to show what I can do and I ran with the opportunity. I felt like I had a really solid season. I'm just going to keep going with that.”

As evidenced by the aforementioned stats--not the least of which is the 16 games played, as healthy defensive linemen were at a premium for Dallas in 2013--Selvie has good reason to feel good about his performance. But he won’t hesitate to point out the areas where he can improve.

“Pass rush,” said Selvie. “That's what I need to do, be more effective in the pass rush. I know that. I'm my biggest critic and I didn't get enough pressure [against Philadelphia] or through the year. I made some plays and that felt good, but I felt like I can do more.”
