On Wednesday, Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett confirmed that the team will turn to Matt Cassel when they return to action on the other side of the bye this week.

The writing was on the wall following the Cowboys’ 30-6 loss to the Patriots. Brandon Weeden had played well enough in losses to the Falcons and the Saints--even leading a successful, game-tying two-minute drive--but against the Pats, he was bad.

He finished 26-of-39 passing, which doesn’t sound bad, but those 26 completions went for just 188 yards, for an average of 4.8 yards per pass. He was also intercepted by the Pats.

We decided (Tuesday) to do this and spoke to both of the players,” Garrett said, via the team’s official website. “There are a lot of different reasons you make a decision like this. You evaluate the quarterback and what we’re asking them to do on a daily basis and weekly basis. Also at this position, you look at how the offense is performing and this position has an impact on the entire offensive unit.

“It certainly has an impact on how the team is performing. Sometimes it’s fair and sometimes it’s unfair but it’s the nature of the position.”
