Greg Hardy Named Top Free Agent Left on the Market

Greg Hardy posted six sacks for the Cowboys in 2015

As Jason Garrett, Jerry Jones or seemingly anyone affiliated with the Dallas Cowboys would be quick to tell you, Greg Hardy is a free agent.

According to a recent ranking, he’s the best free agent left.

ESPN’s John Clayton published his list of the top 15 free agents left on the market, and the controversial defensive end who posted six sacks for the Cowboys in 2015 is right there at the top. Granted, four of those six sacks  came in his first three games, after which the production slowed and Hardy’s welcome wore thin as he reportedly made a habit of being late—thus his current teamlessness.

But pass rushers are at a premium and Hardy has shown he can be a very good one, which makes his place among the remaining free agents unsurprising.

“Hardy may be a headache for a coach, but he's clearly the best player on the market, the only elite player left,” Clayton writes. “Owners who mandate they won't sign players who have domestic violence issues may shy away from Hardy, but someone will sign him. Last year, the Dallas Cowboys signed him to a contract worth more than $11 million even though he started the season with a four-game suspension. My best guess is a team that doesn't get the pass-rusher it was looking for in the draft might sign him, but his market will pick up at some point.”
