Granbury's Dana Vollmer Qaulifies to Defend Gold in 100m Butterfly
Dana Vollmer calls herself a "Momma on a Mission." The Granbury native already has four Olympic gold medals. She never really retired from swimming after the London Games in 2012, but took a time out to have a baby boy named Arlen. Now, Vollmer is back in the pool at her third Olympics defending her 2012 gold medal in the 100-meter butterfly. She advanced to the semifinals after swimming 56.56 in the fourth qualifying heat Saturday morning. She was back in the pool Saturday night for the semifinal swim. Vollmer qualified in fourth place with 57.06 seconds. She'll be facing Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom, the reigning world champion, who set the Olympic record in the 100m butterfly in semifinals Saturday night
No Gold for Sarah Scherer
Texas Christian University graduate Sarah Scherer set her sites on gold in her second Olympics but fell short. Scherer came in 8th in the 10-meter air rifle competition Saturday morning. Meanwhile 19-year-old Ginny Thrasher became the first American to win a gold medal in Rio with her win in 10m air rifle. Click here for results. Scherer will have another chance at gold next week.

U.S. Women's Soccer Defeats France
U.S. women defeat France 1-0 in Group G play thanks to Carli Lloyd's goal in the second half. It was enough to give the U.S. three points against France. With the victory, the U.S. take control in Group G with six points. France remains at three points. Both the U.S. and France will plays in final group stage matches on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. CT. The U.S. faces off against Colombia while France plays New Zealand.

In the midst of arguably their finest team performance in a quadrennium, a familiar nemesis provided the U.S. men's gymnastics team with a reminder that nothing comes easily.
Especially on pommel horse. Especially at the Olympics.
While having Chris Brooks (who attended Cypress Creek High School) and Sam Mikulak go spinning off pommels removed some of the sparkle of an occasionally spectacular Saturday during Olympic preliminaries, it also offered a reality check. As solid as the score of 270.405 points was -- second only to two-time defending champion China -- the Americans know it can be better during Monday's team finals.
