Cowboys Feeling Impact Of Strength Coach Mike Woicik

Woicik returned to the Cowboys last year, 15 years after he left with three Super Bowl rings

Last February, the Dallas Cowboys brought strength and conditioning coach Mike Woicik back into the fold, 15 years after Woicik departed Dallas--with three Super Bowl rings--for New Orleans and then New England, where he won three more Super Bowl rings in 11 years with the Pats.

Widely considered one of, if not the best S&C coach in the business, Woicik’s return might have made an immediate impact. But due to the lockout, there wasn’t an offseason, meaning Woicik was prohibited from working with his new team during those summer months when the team’s offseason workout program is usually in full swing.

This year, his first real offseason with the Cowboys’ since Bill Clinton was in office, Woicik’s presence is already being felt by the team, who say there’s a marked difference in the team’s conditioning. Between now and training camp, defensive end Jason Hatcher said recently, the team’s job is to maintain what Woicik has helped them build in the weight room and on the field at Valley Ranch.

"I think the biggest thing for us is to keep what we have earned," Hatcher said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "Coach Woicik and his staff did a great job with us. I watched my body change. Everybody looked like they were in great shape. We are leaner, moving better. Guys need to stay in that shape."
