Could New York lose the NFL Draft?
It appears there’s a distinct possibility.
The NFL pushed this year’s draft back two weeks, from the traditional start date in the last week in April, to accommodate a show at Radio City Music Hall. The prospect of such scheduling conflicts as presented by that show--which was ultimately cancelled, by the way--along with the prospect of a huge payday from another city has the NFL thinking outside Gotham.
Asked by Gary Myers of the New York Daily News if the league shopping the event to other cities was a real possibility, a league source said, “I absolutely do. If a decision is made that the NFL draft leaves New York, I’m sure it will be a competitive bidding process. It hasn’t been discussed placing it in any particular cities. A half dozen cities have approached the league and said, ‘When you’re ready to move, we’re ready to host it.’”
We’ll go ahead and assume that Jerry Jones has his sales pitch, on behalf of North Texas, ready to go.
