C.J. Might Have One More Appearance in Him

Just a few days ago, we all thought C.J. Wilson might have pitched his final game in a Texas Rangers uniform. And depending on how you feel about the most polarizing player on this team, you were either happy or sad about that.

But tonight, depending on how things go with Matt Harrison taking the hill in Game 7, he could be in line to see a lot of work as Harrison will surely be on a short leash, as will St. Louis ace Chris Carpenter, as will anyone who toes the rubber in the do-or-die Game 7.

Wilson has been better in his past two outings than he was at any other time this postseason, going into the sixth inning both times and giving up a total of four earned runs.

It's not fair to say Harrison is destined for failure, but failure in a Game 7 could be giving up two runs in one inning. He will be on the shortest of leashes, and after burning Derek Holland's and Scott Feldman's chances of going four innings or so on Thursday, Wilson is the first guy up in a long-relief situation.

Maybe Wilson will be a hero in the decisive Game 7 and help bring the Rangers their first-ever World Series championship. Or maybe Wilson will be a goat again and make excuses after the game.

Or better yet, maybe Harrison will go 7 innings and bounce back from his Game 3 outing which ended with a Cardinals blowout, though Harrison didn't get any help from his defense or from the umpires.
