Chirinos Could Get Start Soon

Robinson Chirinos has started just one game since suffering a shoulder injury at the end of July, and that came way back on Sept. 9. Other than that, the Rangers' starting catcher has come in a few times this month as a defensive replacement while he's battled a couple of setbacks along the way.

But according to a Dallas Morning News chat with insider Evan Grant, Chirinos' next start could be coming very soon, possibly even in Wednesday night's series finale with the Tigers.

Chirinos has come in as a defensive replacement the last two nights, and if he hasn't had any issues it'd be a good game to bring him back in before Thursday's opener with the second-place Angels to close out the regular season.

Chirinos' return would likely mean the end of Bobby Wilson, who's struggled after a brief hot streak when Chirinos first went down with injury. Chris Gimenez has been solid at the plate, but has deficiencies defensively. Chirinos is by far the best defensive option the Rangers have, and if they can get him back to full strength before a playoff run, that'd be a huge development.
