Redskins tight end Chris Cooley drew the ire of many a Cowboys fan a few weeks ago, when he released two videos jabbing at Tony Romo and Jason Witten.
Apparently surprised at the flood of angry comments on his blog since, Cooley set out to defend himself against Cowboys fans last week, making sure to mention that he and Jason Witten were friends. He was sure that Witten would not be offended, he said.
And while Witten might not be offended, he's certainly not Cooley's 'friend.' That much was made clear in Witten's comments after Friday's practice in San Antonio, as reported by DMN Cowboys blogger Tim MacMahon.
"I mean, we've met a couple of times, if that's what you call friends," Witten said. "He's a good player. He really is. I just try not to get involved it just right now with my focus being here and trying to help my team. I have enough focus on my job and trying to be the best player I can be."
This sentiment gets relatively juicy--about as juicy as Witten can get, really--before taking a nose dive towards predictable-sound-byte-land (the last two sentences), where Witten spends most of his time. But the message was clear and kind of funny. Witten won't be inviting Cooley to a weekend in Cabo any time soon.
As for the video that caused this Cuban Missile Crisis of the NFL blogosphere, Witten claims he hasn't seen it.
"I kind of got wind of it," Witten said after Friday's practice. "I haven't really seen it myself yet. You know, I know Chris is into the blogging and that deal. It's not really my style. My focus is here in camp and trying to be a better team. I don't know why he's doing that. I haven't really looked into it that much. I haven't had much time."
