AirHogs Espinosa Picked Up By Mariners

The Grand Prairie AirHogs led by Manager Pete Incaviglia proudly announce the acquisition of All-Star shortstop David Espinosa by the Seattle Mariners.  Espinosa is expected to report Tuesday to the Double-A West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx of the Southern League.

Upon exit, Espinosa leads the league in runs scored (24), and is second in on-base percentage (.471) and third in stolen bases (10).  He represents the fourth Grand Prairie AirHogs player to be acquired by a Major League team in only the second year of the team’s existence.

"We are very proud of Espi[nosa] and proud to have another one of our guys picked up by a big league club.  The talent on this team is evident and we will continue to build on that in hopes to advance these guys to their highest level as players and to our highest level as a ballclub," said manager Pete Incaviglia.

An original first round draft pick by the Cincinnati Reds (23th overall) in 2000, the Miami, Fla., native has played in affiliated ball as recently as 2007 with the Detroit Tigers’ Triple-A Toledo MudHens.

The AirHogs return home for a seven game homestand on Friday, June 12 at 7:05 p.m. Gates will open at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.airhogsbaseball.com or calling 972-504-9383.
