UIL Will Meet Tuesday to Discuss Duncanville-DeSoto Brawl

The UIL will have an emergency meeting on Tuesday in Pflugerville to discuss punishment for the brawl last week between Duncanville and DeSoto at Sandra Meadows Arena.

DeSoto announced Wednesday it will forfeit the final two regular-season games. The incident will likely cost the Eagles the District 7-6A crown as they are currently tied with Duncanville for the top spot. Both teams are 11-2 going into the week. However, DeSoto is still lined up to make the playoffs.

The incident reportedly started when players bumped into each other after the game and the situation escalated afterwards near the teams’ benches. Punches were thrown and players had to be repeatedly pulled apart. DeSoto won the game 67-46.

Due to the two games being forfeited, Irving Nimitz got the 2-0 win over DeSoto on Friday. The regular season finale would have been on Tuesday against South Grand Prairie. The Warriors are currently sitting in third in the district at 10-3.

The UIL committee will also discuss violations stemming from an incident between the Dallas Kimball and Dallas Conrad girls’ basketball teams. No further details have been released. Conrad beat Kimball 54-40 on Tuesday.

Meeting Agenda:

1:30 p.m. - Consideration of Penalties for Violations of Section 50(a)(3), Student Violations, Section 51(b)(1), School District Personnel Violations, and Section 52(b), UIL School Violations

Realignment Appeal:

San Angelo Central has officially filed an appeal with the UIL for the realignment placement. They were placed in District 3-6A in all sports with Weatherford, North Richland Hills, LD Bell, Haltom City, Euless Trinity and Abilene. One of the major concerns is travel, with North Texas schools about four hours away from Central.
