UIL Medical Advisory Committee Proposes Mandatory Concussion Reporting for Class 6A Athletics

The committee plans to present the motion to the UIL legislative council in October

The UIL medical advisory committee passed a motion Sunday that would require mandatory concussion reporting from all Texas Class 6A schools to boost data collection in its statewide concussion registry.

The committee plans to present the motion in October to the UIL legislative council, which will vote on implementation during the 2019-20 school year.

The UIL partnership with UT Southwestern Medical Center, dubbed β€œConTex 2,” aims to track individual instances of concussions at UIL events across the state. The project currently doesn't require schools to report suspected or diagnosed student-athlete head injuries.
