2011 Marks Just 2nd Tradeless Draft For Dallas Under Jerry

Certainly influenced somewhat by the labor impasse, this weekend’s 2011 NFL Draft featured just 21 trades, down from 33 from last year. The Dallas Cowboys didn’t make a draft day trade for just the second time in Jerry Jones’ 22-year tenure as owner.

Of course, the idea certainly wasn’t out the window. Jones told reporters recently that the Cowboys had gone to the negotiating table with another team at least once in the moments leading up to their first round selection of USC tackle Tyron Smith.

"We had a great chance," Jones said, per the Dallas Morning News. "We had a heck of a trade with our first pick."

Ultimately though, Jones is happy with the selection of Smith, widely considered the top tackle in the 2011 draft class.

"I'm very pleased that we used that pick and did not make the trade and that we have Tyron Smith," Jones said.
