Gov. Rick Perry is hoping for a strong finish in South Carolina's Republican primary, but a new poll shows him far behind the other major candidates.
Only 6 percent of likely South Carolina voters support the governor, according to a TIME/CNN/ORC poll released Wednesday.
Rep. Ron Paul, who represents the 14th Congressional District located in South Texas, was well above Perry with 13 percent. But he was also 20 points behind front-runner Mitt Romney.
Romney was in the lead with 33 percent, followed by Newt Gingrich with 23 percent and Rick Santorum with 16 percent.
The poll interviewed 505 registered voters likely to vote in the South Carolina primary and had a margin of error of +/- 4.5 percent.
The numbers are even worse for Perry in Florida, according the TIME/CNN/ORC poll. Perry had a mere 2 percent of the support there, while Paul had 9 percent.
Romney had a commanding 43 percent, with Santorum at 19 percent and Gingrich at 18 percent.

The Florida poll of 391 registered Republicans who are likely to vote in the primary had a margin of error of +/- 5 percent.
Both polls were conducted Jan. 13-17.
