Texas House Upgrades Online Video Feeds

The Texas House is beefing up its online broadcasts, allowing an unlimited number of viewers to follow floor action from afar.

Speaker Joe Straus' office announced Tuesday that during previous sessions, software limitations only allowed a maximum 2,500 viewers at a time. But there will be no such viewership constraints when lawmakers head back to work in January 2015.

The Legislative Council paid nearly $10,000 for the upgrades, which will also increase the number of committee meetings and other legislative gatherings around the Capitol that can be broadcast simultaneously.

Online feeds will now be accessible using mobile devices and the archives of previous broadcasts will also be improved.

Similar upgrades in the Senate are expected to be operational next month.
