Woman Who Held Mortgage Fraud Seminars Sentenced

Prosecutors say a North Texas woman who held seminars on how to commit mortgage fraud must serve more than five years in prison and repay $2.8 million.

A federal judge in Dallas on Thursday sentenced 50-year-old Patience Lavon Jackson of Arlington. Jackson in October pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.

Investigators say Jackson helped line up buyers to submit fake invoices and secure home mortgages or loans for residential improvements. Investigators say Jackson since 2007 portrayed herself as being in the real estate business and offered seminars at her house. She received payments from some of the illegal proceeds.

Prosecutors say in some cases Jackson helped process documents for people she never met or had advised on getting mortgages and then not repaying the loans.
