Woman Killed 24 Hours After Seeking Protection

A woman who asked police to arrest her ex-boyfriend on Monday was found dead less than 24 hours later.

Heather Coglaiti went to police Monday seeking protection from her ex-boyfriend, Jose Calderon, who she claimed had been harassing her since they broke up in January. Documents provided by the Corpus Christi police say Coglaiti feared for her life, citing death threats from the ex-boyfriend.

In a recorded interview with Corpus Christi police, Calderon said that he knew her routine but claimed he was not capable of harming her or her children. Less than 24-hours later, police found both Calderon and Coglaiti dead inside her apartment.

According to documents, there was not enough evidence to arrest the Calderon after his interview. Police Chief Floyd Simpson told reporters on Wednesday that the department had done all it could.
