Woman Attacked on Katy Trail: Dallas Police

Dallas police are on the lookout for a suspect wanted in an attack late last month on the Katy Trail.

According to police, a woman was walking on the trail around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 3400 Blackburn Ave., when told officers a man jumped from the bushes, threw her to the ground and ripped out her earbuds.

Police said the woman was able to fend off the suspect by kicking and screaming.

Investigators released a sketch of the suspect Friday.

"I'm always aware of these things. I watch 'Dateline' and stuff, so sadly it doesn't really surprise me," said runner Taylor Champlin, on the Katy Trail Friday.

Champlin said she has already been taking precautions against attacks like the one police are investigating.

"I carry pepper spray with me," she said, "just to have, just in case."

Police describe the suspect as approximately 5'9" and 250 pounds, and he is believed to be in his mid- to late-20s.
