Firefighters are trying to contain a wildfire near Lake Whitney that is reported to have destroyed at least 12 structures.
Officials said the fire is burning on the east side of the lake near state Highway 22 and County Road 2107, not far from Lake Whitney State Park Airport.
The fire, which has burned about 300 acres, is 80 percent contained but significant areas are still burning. Six of the 12 structures reported destroyed are homes.
The Texas Forest Service is on the ground trying to protect area homes while fighting the fire.
More than 200 people have been evacuated. The Red Cross is also in the area helping those displaced by the fire.
The Whitney Independent School District canceled classes Friday because the fire has knocked out power to most of its campuses.
The Texas Forest Service said a firefighter was taken by ground ambulance to a hospital for smoke inhalation. She is expected to make a full recovery.
