It started at sunrise this morning and continues throughout the weekend so there’s plenty of time to catch the DFW Summer Balloon Classic & AirFest.
The hot-air balloon show — which also includes airplanes, helicopters, military aircraft, skydivers, powered parachutes, and hang gliders, so there’ll be all manner of flying contraptions — runs from about dawn ‘til dusk, July 22 and 23, and dawn ‘til noon, July 24, at Mid-Way Regional Airport, just off Highway 287 about midway between Midlothian and Waxahachie.
At some point during the weekend — check the website — the event also serves as the site for the Texas State Championship sanctioned by the Balloon Federation of America, so, yeah, this it big-time.
This is, of course, a family event set in a festival atmosphere. You got your kids play area. You got your vendor booths. You got your musical entertainment. You got your food and refreshment concessionaires. And, pretty cool stuff here, you got your balloon, helicopter, B25 and DC3, and maybe even biplane rides available at a cost.
All in all, it sounds worthy of standing outside in 100-degree heat. Have fun.
