Trial Begins for Man Accused in Death of Daughter, Her Lover

Prosecutors say blood samples and surveillance video are among the evidence showing a Houston man bludgeoned his daughter and shot her girlfriend before dumping their bodies behind a convenience store.

The capital murder trial of 48-year-old James Larry Cosby began Tuesday in Galveston. He's accused of killing Britney Cosby and Crystal Jackson, both 24, in 2014.

Authorities believe Britney Cosby was killed at her father's home and Jackson died later. Their bodies were found behind the store on the Bolivar Peninsula, near Galveston.

Prosecutors told jurors Tuesday that they can't prove why the women were killed, only that James Cosby is responsible.

He's pleaded not guilty to the crime and his attorney, Greg Russell, says the case is based on circumstantial evidence that doesn't link him to the deaths.
