Texas Priest Named New Bishop for Diocese of Biloxi

A Texas priest had been named the next bishop for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Biloxi.

The diocese announced Friday that Monsignor Louis Kihneman will be ordained as the new bishop Feb. 17. He will lead churches that minister to about 58,000 Catholics throughout south Mississippi.

Kihneman comes to Biloxi from the Diocese of Corpus Christi, Texas, where he has been a priest for 39 years. Before being chosen by Vatican to come to Biloxi, Kihneman was the Texas diocese's vicar general and moderator of the curia as well as pastor of St. Philip the Apostle Parish.

Kihneman will succeed Bishop Roger Morin, who reached the mandatory retirement age of 75 last March.
