If you gave a check to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at NorthPark Center on Black Friday, you'll need to stop payment on it.
The agency said a thief put a dollar in the donation box and then grabbed the box and ran away.
The SPCA believes there was about $1,000 in the box in both cash and checks.
"Our big concern as an agency is for the people who donated to the canister, those who left checks, I don't know, they might be at risk for some type of check fraud," said Maura Davis.
Police found the empty box in the parking garage.
