Sen. Ted Cruz Visits Rowlett After Tornadoes

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz toured neighborhoods in Rowlett Wednesday morning to see first-hand the damage left behind by a massive tornado Saturday night.

Cruz was accompanied by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Rowlett Mayor Todd Gottel and Rockwall County Judge David Sweet.

The senator stopped to talk with victims who lost their homes and visitors volunteers at a donation center.

"It is also remarkable seeing how Texans respond in the face of disaster, in the face of tragedy. Over and over again, when faced with natural disasters, Texans come together," said Cruz.

Teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency are already in North Texas assessing damage on the ground, and Cruz said his office is ready to help as well.

"My office stands prepared. I certainly stand prepared to do anything I can to assist in facilitating federal resources being applied as appropriate and as provided for in law," Cruz said.

On Tuesday, Cruz sat down with NBC 5 and The Dallas Morning News and talked about appealing to voters who stayed home during the past two elections.

"I think the key to winning the general election in 2016 is energizing the millions of conservatives, millions of evangelicals and Reagan Democrats who stayed home," said Cruz.

Cruz, who is leading in the Republican polls in Iowa, will return to Iowa next week. Still, Cruz is thinking way past the primary contests. His campaign is organized in all of the Super Tuesday states.

"Obviously, Texas is the crown jewel of the Super Tuesday primary," Cruz said. "We are campaigning hard across the state and I am confident we are going to do well."
