Richardson Man Thanks Paramedics for Saving His Life

A Richardson man who collapsed on a soccer field is thanking friends and first responders for saving his life.

The heartwarming reunion was at the same soccer field where John Fina collapsed two years ago Friday.

Fortunately, the friends with whom he was playing knew CPR and traded off performing the life-saving measure until Richardson paramedics arrived.

"I try to look back at what really happened and what they tell me. It's just unbelievable that I'm still here and able to talk to you right now," Fina said.

On Friday, Fina invited the friends and Richardson paramedics to lunch to say thank you.

"It's an incredible feeling for one of our patients to come back and thank us for what we do," paramedic Marcus Freeze said.

Paramedics rushed Fina to Methodist Richardson Medical Center where doctors performed a highly-specialized stent procedure.

It has allowed Fina, 70, to return to playing soccer, the game he's played his entire life.

The paramedics say the close call is a reminder about the importance of learning CPR.
