Richard Overton, Nation's Oldest Man and WWII Vet, Released From Hospital

Overton was already in his 30s when he volunteered and served in the Army

UPDATE: Richard Overton passed away Dec. 27 at the age of 112.

Richard Overton, the oldest man in America, has been released from a Texas hospital and recovering from a bout of pneumonia.

KXAN-TV in Austin reported Overton, 112, was released from a hospital and moved to a rehabilitation facility before noon Monday. The report cited Overton's cousin, Volma Overton Jr.

Overton was admitted Dec. 19 in the latest of several battles of pneumonia this year. The report said he's recovered, but the family hopes Overton can regain his strength at the rehab facility.

Overton is a lifelong Austin resident and the oldest living World War II veteran in the country.

Overton was already in his 30s when he volunteered and served in the Army. In 2013, he was honored by President Barack Obama at a Veterans Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
