Homes, Roads Flooded in Collin, Hunt Counties

Flooding swamped homes and roadways, including part of Interstate 30, after heavy rains moved through North Texas Sunday morning.

In Hunt County, some homes flooded, including one with three feet of water on the first floor off County Road 2660. The floodwaters forced Mohammad Z. Khan and his family to the second story of their home to wait for floodwaters to recede.

“My two kids are scared but my niece and oldest son are trying to remain clam,” Khan said, “we’re praying and trying to calm each other.”

Khan said everyone is safe, and there is no need to worry.

“Thanks to God that there is no damage to us,” Khan said, “ our kids and family we’re safe - so we ask everyone to pray for us and keep us in your prayers.”

As of ten o’clock Sunday night, Khan said there was still a foot and half of water remaining in his home.

“You know the damage is huge,” Khan said. Electronics, furniture and beds, all downstairs, were damaged. The full extent of the damage won’t be revealed until the water fully recedes.

Khan tells NBC 5 his animals, including chickens and goats, did not survive.

His neighbor, Kim Taylor, was traveling back from Chicago Sunday when she arrived home to see the land between their homes submerged in swift moving water.

“I came down from the top, and I took a look down an literally hit the brakes,” Taylor said, “ I was like that can’t be – I don't live on a lake.”

Just to the southeast, Interstate 30 westbound was underwater part of the day Sunday and was forced to close. It backed up traffic for miles.

As of 10:00 Sunday night, one lane of traffic westbound had reopened. All eastbound lanes remained open. However, the service roads on either side of the intersection were shut down.

According to TxDot’s website, DriveTexas.org, the water is receding.
