Dallas police are beefing up patrols along the Katy Trail after three people in the area were robbed over the weekend.
Police said they believe the two armed men who robbed three people late Saturday night and early Sunday morning could be behind 11 additional robberies in the Uptown area since May 4.
Dallas police said the robberies have occurred at all hours of the day and night. The victims include both men and women. The robbers were armed with semiautomatic handguns and drove a gray or silver four-door sedan.
The latest news from around North Texas.
Police said they had connected the 11 earlier robberies but did not alert the public because the department did not want to compromise the ongoing investigation.
Seven of the 14 attacks occurred on or near the Katy Trail, including the three over the weekend. In those robberies, the men stole money and iPhones from victims on Travis, Routh and Buena Vista streets.
Police have added extra patrols and undercover officers along the Katy Trail.
Friends of Katy Trail, the nonprofit that maintains the trail, said users of the trail should feel safe.
"Only one of those incidents happened on Katy Trail," said Robin Baldock, executive director. "The other two were in the Uptown area, not on the Katy Trail."
Friends of Katy Trail said it employs a pair of additional patrols to secure the trail between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
"We're going to continue to do the things we always do," Baldock said. "We're concerned about safety of all trail users. Be aware of surroundings."
A local business in the area said it has security during weekend hours and will continue doing so.
