Police Find Man Dead, Home Burned After Assault Call

Police said they found a man dead in a burned house after officers responded to the home regarding a family violence call Sunday afternoon.

Hurst Police Department officials said they received a call from a woman who said her boyfriend assaulted her at the residence in the 800 block of Crystal Lane at about 3:43 p.m. The woman left the house to meet with officers and told them her boyfriend threatened to burn the house and possibly kill himself if she called police.

Police said the boyfriend walked out of the house when officers arrived at the home, but quickly ran back inside when he saw them. He did not respond to officers' attempts to contact him.

The officers reported hearing possible gun shots from inside the house just before the house began to burn, police said.

The Hurst Fire Department, with help from local agencies, was able to extinguish the fire before it damaged neighboring homes.

After the fire was extinguished, police said they found a man's body inside the house. They said the cause of death appeared to be a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head.

The Hurst police and fire departments are still investigating the incident.
