Oklahoma Turnpike Authority Approves Pass Use in All of Texas

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority has approved an agreement that would extend the usage of turnpike passes into Houston and Austin, Texas, in 2017.

The Tulsa World reports that OTA approved the agreement Tuesday. The pass, called a PikePass, automatically deducts a toll from a prepaid account when a vehicle passes a detection point.

The OTA already has a reciprocal agreement with the North Texas Tollway Authority, which operates the Dallas North Tollway, the George Bush Turnpike and the Sam Rayburn Tollway.

OTA executive director Tim Stewart says the agreement allows the pass to be used in all of Texas.

David Machamer, assistant executive director of toll and PikePass, says plans call for agreements to eventually be made with Georgia and Florida, so the device can be used on toll roads in those states.
