Off-Duty Officer Dragged, Run Over by SUV

Officer suffers broken leg after being run over by SUV

An off-duty Wolfe City police officer suffered a broken leg after being hit and dragged by an SUV early Monday morning in Dallas.

Police said the off-duty officer was working traffic control in a construction area as crews resurfaced the 3600-block of N. Buckner. The area was blocked off with orange cones when two people in an SUV pulled into the construction zone at about 4:10 a.m., police said.

The uniformed officer walked up to the driver of the SUV and an argument ensued, police said. That's when the SUV took off down Chenault Street, dragging the officer.

The officer broke loose, but the SUV ran over his leg, breaking it.

Construction workers tried chasing after the vehicle, but were unsuccessful.

If found, the pair inside the SUV face a charge of aggravated assault on a public servant.
