Police said a man died after a wreck when the vehicle he was driving in reverse behind a North Richland Hills Wal-Mart caught fire early Tuesday morning.
Officials said emergency personnel responded a call about a vehicle driving recklessly and crashing behind the Wal-Mart in the 6400 block of Northeast Loop 820 at about 1:27 a.m.
When officers arrived, they found a vehicle engulfed in fire with a man â the driver â trapped inside, officials said. First responders could not rescue him the man in time and officials pronounced him dead at the scene. The man has not yet been identified.
Investigators said they learned the man was driving in a circular pattern in reverse for about two minutes before colliding with a large stack of wooden pallets near the loading dock. The vehicle was reportedly stuck on the pallets, which caught fire and spread to the vehicle.
Officials said they are waiting on an autopsy to determine the cause of death and identity.
