North Texas Police Chase Tops 100 MPH, Ends in Waco

Authorities said they arrested a man after a high-speed police pursuit that began in Rockwall County, traveled into downtown Dallas and then south on Interstate 35 before ending in Waco Thursday evening.

The man — later identified as Jonathan Alexander Davis — was driving a silver four-door Mazda passenger car at speeds exceeding 100 mph. Authorities said he drove the wrong way, passed vehicles on the shoulder and evaded multiple attempts by officers to disable the vehicle with spike strips on I-35E.

Several agencies were involved in the pursuit, which lasted more than an hour and crossed through at least five counties.

The chase ended when Davis crashed into a median guardrail on southbound I-35 near Meyers Lane in Waco. Officers then took him into custody.

Davis was charged with driving while intoxicated and possession of controlled substances.

The initial reason for the chase is unknown at this time.
