Carrollton police said Michael Kevin Erbert failed to yield when he left a Burger King in the 3700 block of Josey Lane at 10:07 p.m. As he drove into traffic, his pickup truck collided with a motorcycle.
The motorcyclist — who was not wearing a helmet — was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he later died of his injuries, a Carrollton police spokesman said.
As of Saturday evening, Erbert is being held on a charge of intoxication manslaughter.
The incident was originally thought to be a shooting because the motorcyclist was carrying a firearm and bullets, which scattered on the ground after the crash.
