Distraught Man Struck, Killed by a Dozen Vehicles on Texas 183 in Irving

As many as a dozen vehicles are believed to have struck and killed a distraught man along Texas 183 late Monday night, police say.

Tuesday afternoon police identified the victim as 32-year-old Malama Mwikuta, of Irving.

Mwikuta's fiance, Latoya Titus, told police that he was distressed over her recent miscarriage and walked out onto the freeway at about 11 p.m.

Police said many of the drivers who struck Mwikuta immediately pulled over near the MacArthur Boulevard exit and called 911.

"Some of them were very emotional as to what had happened," Irving Police Officer Stephen Burres said. "But they did the exact thing we would request that everybody do."

Crime scene investigators snapped photos of the vehicles and took statements before allowing the drivers to leave the scene.

Burres said it does not appear that any of them were the first to strike the pedestrian.

"There's no damage to any of these vehicles consistent with that, like a headlight that's broken or a hood that's dented," said Burres. "We don't know which vehicle may have started the entire chain of events."

None of the drivers are expected to face any charges.
