Homeless Man Found Dead After Freezing Night: Lubbock Police

Lubbock police said the body of a lightly-dressed homeless man was found behind a convenience store following a night of below-freezing temperatures.

Police said the man's body was found Monday morning, following overnight temperatures in the area that dipped to 24 degrees.

Lubbock police Sgt. Ross Hester told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal that police do not suspect foul play, indicating the man was "definitely unprepared for the cold temperatures."

"It looks as though he's a victim of freezing," Hester said.

The man was found wearing jeans and a light jacket. He was covered with a light blanket. Hester says the man was in a homeless camp along a wooded path.

The Lubbock County medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death. Investigators could not immediately identify the man.
