Get Strafed at Air Power Expo

Military air show set for NASJRB

by Bruce Felps

Prepare to be thrilled.

Air Power Expo takes to the sky this weekend over the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth. It’s part of the Naval Aviation Centennial, and there seem to be a lot of those going on this year — White Rock Lake, SMU, and Ebby Halliday, the person not the real estate company, all mark the century point, too.

Anyway, Air Power Expo features the Blue Angels, of course, the Trojan Phylers, Red Eagles, and the Blastards, which in addition to having a clever name simulate bombing runs over the crowd, which ought to be fun for the kids and somewhat terrifying for anyone in the crowd who might have lived in London back in the ‘40s or Baghdad in the ‘00s.

The two-day event starts at 11 a.m., April 16 and 17, and admission and parking are free.

Oh, a few words of warning. Audience members, as they pass through the gates, will go through a security checkpoint. If you try to exit your vehicle with food, drinks, pets — heads up, they said pets — or other prohibited items, they are subject to confiscation.

So, go, have fun, follow orders, and stay out of the brig.
