Frisco Men Sue Denton County Over Liquor Sales

Frisco goes slightly less family friendly

Frisco is a city in sort of joint custody between two parentsDenton and Collin counties. Thus, elections there, complete with the labyrinth created by the entangled local codes and ordinances of two distinct municipalities, can be tricky.

In order to vote on whether to allow liquor sales in Frisco, residents had to drive to an entirely different location than where the elections for everything else were being held.

Such a melee, with the added factor of heated debate over liquor sales in the city, unsurprisingly generated a lawsuit.

Al Gibson and Richard Belyan Jr. have sued Denton County commissioners, saying that Precinct 2 (where liquor sales were voted legal on May 9) used to be in Precincts 3 and 6, which had voted to prohibit alcohol sales in the late 1800’s.

They are contesting the results of the election, saying that the law requires that the election include all of the original territory under prohibition, which it did not.

Currently the lawsuit is holding up construction of several new liquor stores waiting to move into the possibly newly wet county.
